The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and the State Life Insurance Corporation Pakistan (SLIC) on Friday inked an agreement for three years from 2012 to 2015 to support 4.1 million breadwinners of its beneficiary families. PISP Chairperson Farzana Raja, SLIC Chairman Shahid Siddiqi and BISP Secretary Sher Khan were present on the occasion. The signing ceremony was signed on the completion of one-year (2011) agreement for 2.03 million breadwinners of BISP beneficiary families between the two organisations and as an extension of the same coverage for another three years (2012 -2015).
Farzana Raja, on the occasion, appreciated the role of State Life Insurance Company in the success of the scheme which, she said, was an added social protection intervention launched by BISP for pro-poor approach.
The BISP chairperson said that the scheme was part of the vision of BISP and aimed at helping the dependants (mothers, wives, children and sisters) of deceased at the time of distress with the compensation of Rs 100,000 within the period of 30 days as an economic shelter which is being given first time in the history of Pakistan. The scheme would be applicable to the beneficiary families of the BISP across Pakistan.
