Afridi to check fake branded health-related products

Intellectual Property Pakistan (IPO) Chairman Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi has taken serious note of manufacturing and sale of fake branded health-elated consumable products in the markets, which are damaging national and multi-national brands.
Afridi asked pharmaceuticals and other related companies to point out elements involved in such mal practices and infringement. He stated this while talking to Pharma Bureau Executive Director Dr Sadia here on Friday.
IPO Director General Sajjad Ahmad Bhutta and members of Pharma Bureau were also present on the occasion.
Afridi said that it is a matter of grave concern that some elements are committing heinous crime by manufacturing medicines and food items by infringing the trademarks of renowned companies.
He asked the representatives of Pharma Bureau to point out such crimes and proceed for legal action against such types of counterfeiting so that they should be penalised according to the relevant laws.
The IPO chairman said that those producing counterfeited and pirated health-related products do not deserve any concession and vowed that the IPO will provide a platform in collaboration with IP enforcement authorities to curb the menace of intellectual property rights violations in the society.
Afridi said that efforts were being made to improve the procedures of registration of intellectual property rights and registries had been asked to ensure the quality examination of IP applications in all respect before granting IP rights.
Dr Sadia lauded the role of the IPO in strengthening the IP system in the country and promised all possible support and cooperation for creating awareness about IP rights.
