The third day of showcase 2012 brought some of the most creatively designed collections on the ramp. Rizwan Beyg, the creative director brought an interesting twist to the show with the most brilliant choreography for Bangladeshi designer Bibi Russell and Pakistani label Kuki Concept. The designers who showcased their collections on the day three were: Maheen Karim: Her collection, ‘Très magnifique’, epitomised femininity with a fusion of dazzling, bold spring colours, in silks and chiffons in draped and flowing silhouettes that made for a collection of wonderful resort-wear, fun-spirited holiday eveningwear and luxury occasion wear. Zarmina Khan: presented ‘Scent of a Woman’ – a romantic, chic collection inspired by the spring breeze, new love and born again serenity. The collection had soft drapes, using light chiffon combined with lace. Ishtiaq Afzal Khan: is a designer who has his roots imbedded in our traditions. Titled ‘Patchalicious’, his collection was inspired by Seminole patchwork. Afzal recycled scraps of cloth into beautiful, eye-popping fabrics by recombining strips of cloth or ribbon. The colours were used in a fine balance to create harmony and style, while each pattern had a name and story behind it. Ibrahim Hanif: His collection was mostly in mostly bright colours such as yellows, oranges, pinks and reds. Ibrahim had also chosen navy blue and dark colours in appliqués on motifs that included fish, buses, trucks, rickshaws, peacocks, birds and flowers. Wardha Saleem: Her collection paid homage to the understated sophistication of the sparrow. The collection named ‘JHIRKI’ had interesting western silhouettes and drapes all in muted tones of brown, beige, whites and blacks. Bibi Russell: She draws inspiration from the ‘Gamcha’- the poor people’s towel and ‘Rickshaw Art’ which use vibrant colours. Her 2012 Spring/Summer prêt collection showed the magical touch of the self-taught skills of the Gamcha weavers and rickshaw painters, using hand woven cotton, in seasonal shades of yellow, orange and green. Ayesha Khurrum: Her prêt wear collection has been defined as music in motion. Her collection was inspired by the poetry and verses of Faiz Ahmed Faiz and icons of popular culture such as Marilyn Monroe. Yasir Mirza: His collection ‘Hiphopistan’ was a tribute to young Pakistanis. His philosophy embodies a sense of the young Pakistani fashion generation – cut, silhouettes and styles were according to the next generation’s fashions statements. Kuki Koncept: Dessigner, Zahid Khan seeks inspiration in art and poetry to create dreamy, romantic designs. This collection was a tribute to the mystical Maulana Jalal-ud-din Rumi and was based on his poetry and Hikayat. The fabrics used were chiffons, georgettes, satins, velvets and karandy cottons.
