Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Thursday directed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to submit practicable suggestions regarding giving rights of vote to Pakistani immigrants. The chief justice heading a three-member bench was hearing a petition pertaining to giving right to vote to Pakistani immigrants on Thursday.
The counsel of the petitioner pleaded that no actions have been taken by Election Commission to give right of vote to Pakistani living abroad who were sending foreign exchange of over Rs 12 billions annually. The joint secretary to Election Commission informed the court that commission was reviewing various steps and would soon come out with suggestions in this regard.
