KP governor hints at introduction of local bodies system in FATA

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Barrister Masood Kausar on Wednesday hinted at the introduction of local bodies system in FATA. “We are seriously considering turning municipal committees in the Tribal Areas into elected bodies, responsible for provision of civic amenities to the local population,” he said, addressing the launching ceremony of report, Mainstreaming FATA, compiled by Shaheed Bhutto Foundation and based on the considerate opinion of the people from different walks of tribal society.
He said these local bodies would be comprising representatives of the respective communities, elected through balloting and under a well-established democratic process for which necessary infrastructure was being laid down. Shaheed Bhutto Foundation Chairman Senator Farhatullah Babar, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan General Secretary IA Rahman, and MNA Munir Orakzai also spoke on the occasion. The governor lauded the efforts of Shaheed Bhutto Foundation particularly the valuable services, which the foundation had rendered to ascertain the viewpoint of the people of FATA on FATA Reforms thus facilitating the government in giving a final shape to the Reform Package approved and announced by President Asif Ali Zardari
on August 12, 2011.
