A petition, seeking provision of free education by the state to the children of age group from 5 to 16 years, was filed in Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday.
The petitioner Syed Feroze Shah Gilani took the plea in the petition that providing education to the children of age group from 5 to 16 years was obligation of the state under article 3,9 and 37-C of the constitution. He prayed the court to issue orders for implementation of these articles of the constitution.
He further took the plea that schools running in private sector had made sacred profession like education a profitable business and adoption of double standard of education had set deterioration in society. All such private institutions be restrained from functioning and a uniform education system be introduced in the country, he requested.
