Lahore High Court Chief Justice, Sh Azmat Saeed, on Tuesday asked Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) to file a reply in two days on a petition challenging condition of 50 percent marks in LLB for law graduates to apply for posts of assistant district attorney and deputy district attorney. During the hearing of the petition filed by a candidate Munwar Jang Qadari, CJ observed that it was a violation of fundamental rights to impose such conditions on law graduates when there is no such condition for other graduates applying for vacancies in other departments.
The petitioner, through his counsel, Advocate Secretary Lahore Bar Association, Sardar Akbar Dogar, contended that hitherto candidates have 45 percent marks in LLB were declared eligible for assistant district attorney and deputy district attorney but now the PPSC had made 50 percent marks mandatory for the posts recently advertised. Terming it as discriminatory the CJ noted that when the pay scale and salary for all other executive posts and appointments were being carried out under old rules and regulations why had it been changed for law graduates, making first division marks in LLB compulsory for them. The CJ asking the PPSC to file its reply on the matter adjourned hearing for two days.
