Appearing before the Supreme Court in Lal Masjid’s military operation case, chief cleric of Lal Masjid Abdul Aziz requested the apex court on Tuesday to take suo motu action and order imposition of Sharia in the country, otherwise God would take the suo motu on his own.
“Pakistan was created in the name of Islam, however, we are still slaves of foreign invaders, we are following the law of infidels,” Aziz argued.
A three-member bench of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Tariq Parvez was hearing a suo motu case of Lal Masjid and Jamia Hafsa’s operation along with a contempt petition filed by Abdul Aziz.
During the hearing, Iftikhar Gilani, counsel for Wafaq-ul-Madaris, told the court that despite of its order, the Islamabad Police did not initiate action against those who were responsible for the Lal Masjid operation.
Gilani asserted that Umm-e-Hassan, the spouse of chief cleric of Lal Masjid Abdul Aziz, had visited the police station but the police had refused to lodge the FIR against the responsible.
He pleaded the court to direct police to register an FIR. The chief justice said it was not the duty of the court. “You should approach to the High Court. We are not the police,” he said.
The counsel pleaded that it should at least direct the Islamabad police and the federal government to submit their reports on the implementation of apex court orders in the Lal Masjid case. The chief justice then directed the Islamabad police and the federal government to submit within a week the report on the implementation of its orders.
Abdul Aziz requested the court to allow him, as he wanted to say something very important. Upon this, the chief justice allowed him to speak. Aziz started his speech before the court. However, the chief justice asked him to present his arguments in the court rather than speech. But Aziz said that Pakistan was created on the bases of Islam and that its constitution had declared it a Muslim welfare state.
He loudly appealed the court to take suo motu notice and direct the parliament to pass a bill for imposing Sharia law in the country.

  1. Oh yes, just a few months after causing great number of deaths including his own brother's, destruction of public property and terrorizing inhabitants of Islamabad, this bloody Mullah is back in mainstream urging apex court to impose shariah. How could he be cleared of all charges? How could media give this mullah enough space in their papers to allow him to further his causes of creating disturbance in state and cause bloodshed. Lal Masjid was a terrorist camp not a mosque.
