The Capital Development Authority (CDA) employees protested here on Tuesday against the recent appointments made by the CDA chairman by using his discretionary powers. It has been learnt that after the appointment of Engineer Farkhand Iqbal as new CDA chairman, around 25 employees have been appointed on several posts in the authority despite the fact that no formal vacancies were announced by the CDA. “All the seats have been filled by appointing blue-eyed people and the posts were never advertised by the civic body,” said one of the employees.
The protesting employees said the CDA high-ups had allotted plots and made new appointments in violation of rules. They said just to please some political figures, the authority administration had sabotaged the merit. They also criticised the allotment of a huge piece of land for the purpose of beautification, adding that gross irregularities had also been found in arts and craft village project which was also started in the name of culture. “It is just because of corruption and nepotism that CDA is going through a severe financial crisis,” said a CDA labor union leader Chaudhry Yaseen. They employees demanded of the authority administration to send back all the officers on deputations and to make the appointments on merit.
