Gunmen and arsonists went on the rampage in the country’s financial capital Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Nawab Shah and other cities of Sindh on Tuesday, killing at least 10 people and setting dozens of vehicles alight, officials said. The unrest was sparked by the murder of a worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and his brother late Monday, reviving fears that the city of 18 million could return to horrifying levels of violence that left more than 1,700 people dead last year. Mansoor Mukhtar, 37, was shot dead late Monday when gunmen burst into the home where he was sleeping, police said. His brother also died and his sister-in-law was wounded in the attack in the central neighbourhood of PIB Colony, police said. Talking to Pakistan Today, SP Gulshan-e-Iqbal Abdul Salam Sheikh said the gunmen killed Mansoor Mukhtar instantly, while his brother Maqsood Mukhtar succumbed to his wounds at a private hospital. He said Mansoor’s sister-in-law Uzma Maqsood and two other MQM workers, Muhammad Yousuf and Muhammad Amjad received bullet wounds. He said the attackers ransacked the entire house and also stole cash, jewellery and other valuables.
Soon afterwards, armed men took to the streets and started setting fire to vehicles, in violence that left a further six people dead and more injured. “Our hospitals have received a total of eight bodies of victims from today’s firing incidents. They include an MQM member and his brother,” said police surgeon Hamid Parhiar. At least 50 vehicles, including buses, mini buses and trucks were torched in Karachi, senior official Roshan Sheikh said. “We have been keeping Karachi peaceful for a long time and such incidents have been perpetrated by those who don’t want to see our country stable and peaceful,” party spokesman Wasay Jaleel told AFP. There were incidents of firing in Gulistan Jauhar, Malir, Nagan Chowrangi, Nazimabad and Sarjani Town. Private schools announced the closure of all educational institutions, while University of Karachi cancelled all its examinations scheduled for Tuesday owing to the rampant violence across Karachi. MQM chief Altaf Hussain appealed to his party workers to observe restraint, as he called for the early arrest of the two brothers’ murderers.

  2. Jub tak criminals logo ki government hogi karachi me dehshatgard isee tarah jala gherao kartee reheenge aman karachi me karana hai to fouji operation karana pareega

  3. This is exactly what the MQM and its supremo Altaf Hussain wants. Such situations are lifeline for MQM thugs. Ever since MQM has come into existence, Karachi has never seen peace for more than 4 weeks.

Usual exercise will come in place now. Moron Rehman Malik will land in Karachi and provide cover to MQM thugs and will let them off the hook if anyone is arrested by law enforcement agencies. President Zardari will issue instructions to remove any 'reservations' of the MQM and peace will be restored for a little while. MQM will continue it murderous activities.

The role played by the media is deplorable because they will project MQM as the only party in Karachi which has stake. The media will never call spade a spade. Shame.

  4. After my previous comment, I am sure by now, many vehicles would have been torched and many innocents killed by 'peaceful' MQM and the law enforcement agencies would have been just spectators. I am sure Asif Zardari who is here in London would be begging Altaf Hussain to have mercy on spineless PPP government.

  5. MQM started politics of violence, body bags, kidnapping for ransom, extortion or forced donations, land grabbing mafia etc in late 80s. For past few years others have entered this are with guns to have their share of this lucrative business and in this battle for turf, people are dying

  6. Altaf Hussain is like Count Dracula and he thrives on blood of innocent citizens. One sector member, what a sector member. who allegedly had dispute with another group had allegedly a dispute on share of extortion money is murdered and here comes in action Count Dracula Altaf Hussain who unleashes his thugs who form so called rabita committee and then many innocents are murdered by MQM thugs. Altaf Hussain should realise that by bleeding Karachi he is bleeding poor people of Karachi.

  7. People of Karachi deserve this. They are not loyal to their city but bent their back to Parties responsible for this state of affairs. They prefer cowards death to taking a brave stand and kick the criminal leaders for good.We know who they are and they also know this. These criminals thrive in Karachi because you allow them. They do not survive in rest of the country. They were rejected by Punjab rest of Sind ,Baluchistan and NWFP the socalled KPK.Wake up now are suffer.

  8. Count Altaf Hussain alias Dracula was seen on a TV channel with his bloated moronic face. His eyes sunken but his statement full of venom. This footage was projected by some from the media as an appeal to people of Karachi to stay calm but in essence it was a threat to the state and was in clear contradiction with the law.

His goebbels are busy trumpeting innocence of MQM but no one is going to believe them. Karachi is fast slipping under their nose and this is obviously unnerving these thugs who had unchallenged supremacy over city of Karachi and in fact they considered Karachi as their fiefdom.

  9. Home Minister of Sindh is absolutely incompetent person. He has no importance. Unfortunately Asif Zardari has handed over Karachi to MQM thugs whose patron is here in London and whose Doppelgänger is Ishrat Ibad who is running a parallel government in his mansion and the other one is arch supporter and a filthy liar Rehman Malik. So long this set up remains in place Karachi will continue to burn with brief intervals of calm.
