The Supreme Court was requested on Monday to dismiss Husain Haqqani’s Civil Miscellaneous Application (CMA), in which he had sought permission to record his statement through a video link.
Advocate Tariq Asad, while filing a CMA with the apex court, requested that those who had taken the responsibility of ensuring the former ambassador’s return to the country, including his counsels, be dealt with in accordance with the law. Asad contended that the apex court had ordered Haqqani not to leave the country without permission. He said the CMA filed by Haqqani came after a similar one was filed by Mansoor Ejaz, in which he was granted permission to record a video-statement.
The advocate stated that Haqqani’s CMA defied the court’s orders and that he was not entitled to any special treatment or the right of equal protection as he was obliged to comply with the orders of the apex court and the commission.
“Unlike Haqqani, Mansoor Ijaz is an American national and is not subject to the law and constitution of Pakistan,” Asad said.
