Khyber Pakhtunkhawa government has decided to introduce Mayorship system in place of Nazims across the Province.
This was stated by senior provincial minister Bashir Ahmed Bilour while talking to media persons here on Tuesday.
He said that under Mayorship system, executive powers would be given to magistrates who will monitor development work in their respective areas.
Bashir Bilour said that in old system executive powers were granted to district Nazims and difference between rural and urban areas was annulled but Nazims were not capable of holding power which led to misconception and a halt in development projects.
The provincial minister said that there were inaccuracies in local government system of 2001 and under Mayorship system executive powers would be in Magistrates and Mayors and chairmen would be restricted to issues relating to urban areas. Mayors would be elected at district level and chairmen at UC level.
He said that Mayorship would be a blend of local body systems of 1979 and 2001 with some additional points added in it.
