In another smuggling bid from across the border with Pakistan, three unidentified smugglers tried to smuggle 14 kilogrammes of highly-refined Afghan-made heroin worth around Rs 700 million in the international market, from near Daoke border out post on Monday.
BSF Deputy Inspector General RPS Jaswal told journalists that a patrolling party of BSF spotted some suspicious movement 40 metres away inside Indian territory and challenged the intruders who instead fired at the BSF. Following the exchange of fire, the smugglers fled. He informed that during a search operation, the BSF recovered 14 packets of one kilogrammes each heroin which was left behind by smugglers before fleeing. The BSF also recovered 3 empty cartridges. He said that movement of smugglers was noticed by BSF through hand held thermal imagers.
