Just as Sindh Interior Minister Manzoor Wasan on Monday directed authorities to reopen the case of acid victim Fakhra Younis, who committed suicide in Italy a few days ago for not getting justice in Pakistan, another woman was attacked with acid in Multan by her husband for demanding money to meet domestic needs.
Wasan told reporters in Karachi the responsible would be brought to court.
Fakhra committed suicide by jumping from the sixth floor of her flat. She was attacked with acid 12 years ago by her husband, former MPA Bilal Khar, who is the son of former Punjab governor Mustafa Khar.
Bilal has denied the allegation, saying that he was not even in Karachi at the time when the incident took place.
He claimed that PML-N President Nawaz Sharif and President Asif Zardari were trying to trap him and his farther. Bilal said Fakhra had taken refuge in Italy after establishing a false case against him “just to earn money” from humanitarian organisations.
In Multan, a man identified as Maqsood threw acid on his wife Shama, mother of four and resident of Bararan Pul area, after a heated argument.
The victim is working with a franchise of a mobile phone company while her husband is a clerk in the district courts.
Reportedly, Shama demanded money for meeting domestic needs, after which Maqsood threw acid on his wife and fled.
Shama was rushed to the Nishtar Hospital where she was admitted to the emergency ward. Doctors said Shama’s face remained safe in the attack, however, she suffered serious burn wounds.
The police have registered a case and are making raids to arrest the accused.

  1. They say there is only one race. The human race. I believe we are as different as German Shepards are to poodles. Each has its own way of coloring its world. These men that throw acid in another human beings face are the worst form of animals. Retribution should be sure and swift. Their punishment should be acid in the face. Eye for an eye. That would stop this unspeakable attrocity in its tracks.
