Shutdown continues in Sopore against youth’s killing

Complete shutdown continues for the third consecutive day on Sunday in Sopore Town against the custodial killing of a youth.
The youth, Sajjad Ahmed died on Thursday at Soura Hospital in Srinagar where he was shifted from Sub-jail Kupwara after he complained severe headache, KMS reported. The family members of Sajjad demanding probe into his death told media men that he was not provided medical care at appropriate time. They said that he was complaining headache for past one and a half month and was not provided with treatment despite repeated requests of the family. Sajad Ahmad was arrested by the personnel of infamous Special Operations Group in November last year on fake charges and was booked under draconian law, Public Safety Act (PSA).
People also took to streets in several areas of the town to protest against killing.
Meanwhile, District Magistrate, Kupwara, Muhammad Shafi Rather has appointed Additional District Magistrate, Kupwara as Inquiry Officer to probe Sajjad’s death, an official spokesman said.
The Additional District Magistrate has been asked to submit his report within fifteen days, the spokesman added.
