Large scale errors and omissions have been noticed in voters lists of Khyber Pakhtunkhawa (KP) complied by National Database Registration Authority (NADRA).
According to details, names of hundreds of people are in KP voters lists that are no more alive.
As per record 14 millions voters have been registered by NADRA and ECP in KP which include 22 thousands voters who are already dead. At least 535 deceased were included in voter list of Union Council (UC) Tehkal of Peshawar only and situation in other areas was also not different.
According to officials, NADRA doesn’t seem to exclude the names of dead persons from the voter lists and they say that the data was provided by EC on the bases of which voters’ lists were compiled.
It should be mentioned that voters lists have been displayed at five thousand centres across Khyber Pakhtunkhawa province but large scale errors in names, other details of voters has become troublesome for the people.
Masses interest and desire for correction of data was at peak and it has become a challenge for EC to satisfy the voters.
Meanwhile, mistakes in voters’ list has also put question mark on performance of NADRA and EC and have given rise to debate among the people that in the presence of such voters lists whether transparency and fairness was possible during the next general elections.
