The race for the Royal Palm Champions title ultimately translated into a duel between Sardar Murad and Mohsen Zafar on the final day of this two days 36 holes Royal Palm Annual Golf Championship and while others had to be content with pursuing the runners up position these two golfers of ability were at each others throats throughout the final 18 holes. At the start of the day, Murad enjoyed a three-stroke lead over Mohsen and at the end of the first nine holes Mohsen had reduced the deficit by one stroke. Mohsen completed the first nine holes in 36 with the help of a birdie on the 7th hole, seven regulation pars and a birdie neutralising bogie. Murads performance on the first nine holes boasted of eight pars and a bogie and a nine holes score of 37. As the players moved into the back nine stretch, noticeable was a bit of nervousness and lack of focus and apparent was erosion in the level of excellence. The double bogies on holes 16 and the vital 18th saw Mohsens chances go wayward and Sardar Murad looked completely at ease as he putted for victory and a glorious moment on the closing 18th hole. Murad was a happy man and so were a large number of his supporters. With the national golf championship coming up next month at the Royal Palm Golf Course, this should be a boost to his determination to do well and as he said, “I have to take time off from my business pursuits and be seen on the golf course all 12 hours of the day for the next three weeks”. Other top contenders ended up as follows: Mohsen Zafar, 73+79=149; Omer Salamat, 75+79=154; Amir Mehmood, 77+85=162; Hamid Sharif, 81+86=167. In the Captains Cup competition the victorious one turned out to be Waheed Aslam with an outstanding closing round of net 66 and a two days winning aggregate of net 142. Through his excellence on the last day he surpassed the good work done by Dr. Nasrullah and Max Babri. As a result Dr Nasrullah had to be content with the runners up slot and Max Babri came third. Regarding the performance of the two girls Nushmiya Sukhera and Kashfa Zafar competing with men they had to be content with the fact that their scores were better than over 30 male competitors.
