Jamaat-e-Islami chief Munawar Hasan has appealed to the masses to stage sit-in on the NATO supply routes, aimed at foiling the government’s efforts, giving a free hand for supplying of ammunition to the US and its allied forces in Afghanistan. While talking to reporters at Mansoora, he said the government’s call to commence parliament session in connection with NATO supply restoration was nothing but a drama to deceive the people. He warned that if parliament passed any resolution to restore the NATO supply line it would be tantamount to committing suicide and the nation would not tolerate it at any cost. He strongly criticised the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) and holding it responsible for strengthening the PPP led government.
“If PML-N would play genuinely a role of opposition, the Zardari administration would never have been able to complete its tenure,” he maintained. He said the PML-N hijacked the “Go Zardari Go” slogan and sabotaged the movement that rose against the PPP government. He advised the youth of the country to up hold country’s interests supreme to everything and appealed them to play their effective role to bar the plunderers in the upcoming elections. Asked about any political alliance, the JI chief said all political parties had completed their homework with regard to general elections. Replying to another question, he said if the incumbent regime was given an extension for a year, the country would lose everything. “Due to its corruption and ill-framed policies the government has lost all its credibility and people are not willing to give them even a single day to rule,” he added. He said the PPP led government had virtually put the country’s sovereignty and security at risk. The situation in Balochistan and Sindh is getting worse day by day, he added. He wondered how the government could tackle the situation while it was patronizing the criminals and the extortionists.
