Information Minister Firdous Ashaq Awan on Saturday said that Fountain House – a facility for mentally challenged people – was waiting for Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, and that he would be there soon.
Talking to reporters at Allama Iqbal International Airport, she said that only the parliament had the prerogative to decide on the restoration of NATO supplies, and no individual could take decision on the matter. She said the Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) had submitted recommendations on reopening NATO supplies, and the government would discuss the new terms of engagement with the US after the parliament’s decision. Firdous said that only parliament had the prerogative to decide on the restoration of NATO supplies, and no individual could take decision on the matter.
In an apparent reference to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), she said the Mehran Bank scandal had exposed “Ali Baba and forty thieves”. She said the Punjab government had spent huge amounts on the publicity campaign of PML-N leaders by distributing laptops. She said the PML-N leaders had escaped from the country in 1999 by signing a deal with a military dictator, and that they were now deceiving the masses. She sad the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP)-led government did not have majority, but democracy remained intact in the country and flourished. “The credit goes to the president, prime minister and the allied political parties,” she said. About the energy crisis, Firdous said the PPP government had added 1,900 megawatts to the national grid despite inheriting the power crises from the previous regimes. She said the provincial governments were equally responsible to produce electricity after the 18th Amendment. When asked about the spiralling prices in the country, she blamed the global recession, adding that the government was taking measures to address all issues.

  1. I see use of improper words being uttered from both both side of the aisle. This is just bizarre. Would Pakistani politician learn the civil language and to interact in an appropriate manner?

    • Thers utterences are normal in Pakistan. One would be surprised if they do anything otherwise. What do expect from such politicians. I guess people only get leaders what they deserve.

  2. If that is the case, then you should also do some contribution for the welfare of the masses & hand yourself over to the local abattoir, as it will significantly help reduce the chronic shortage of beef for the foreseeable future!

    • This is really the bottom of a cesspool. Please show some decency! Firstly the person in question is a lady Secondly she is a minister. If you like your comments to be treated like a joke than it is a sick joke. May be you believe in the liberterian theory and like yo offend. At least i am not amused.
My wife read your comments and remarked "so this is Pakistan". I kept quiet.

      • First of all tell your wife that pakistan is not some/any individual… secondly everyone has a right to say whatever he/she wants to, remember, freedom of speech…

        • i have the gratest respect for youe views but i tend to agree with Max. Long live decency.

        • Freedom of speech is good. So are some boundaries…

Like, under the auspice of "Freedom of Speech", you may not like to start 'name calling' in your own house at every turn…

      • Sir Pakistan is much worse than this. just look around you. It is confirmed failed state now. The is no law. People is high offices are corrupt and have no moral values. Lives of people are not safe. They are deprived of basic needs

      • Please hold your Goody Goody Decent Stuff with you & your beloved wife, who seems to be living somewhere in the Mars & completely ingnorant of what is actually going on. The Groud Realities are a lot bitter than you can ever imagine!

        • Dear Pappu Shah,
I thank you for your comments. I shall defend your right to freedom of speech to
my death while not agreeing with you. To me you appear to be highly educated, highly intelligent ?young man full of hope and glory for his country. It is obvious the lady in question is not popular with you and the likeminded. What i am contesting is not the context but the text. I am sure you are surrounded by equally educated and intelligent ladies and if they are in agreement with your text i take my hat in respect for them.
I have lived in five different countries–Kenya. Pakistan.Usa, Uk, Scandinavia
In the first three countries the freedom of speech is usualy silenced by a bullet. You probably don,t need examples.? In uk your comments would most likely not be published but if so a local bobby will call you to local police station and read the "riot' act to to you and place you under survillance. In Scandanavia in one particular country where half the cabinet ministers are women your comments would be headline news both in the papers and tv and ofcourse you would be invited in both the media to justify
your incitement to murder in the name of freedom of speech. You will be ofcourse charged by the law. I can,t speak about the situation in mars but it is obvious yuo don,t like women!
Finally i would like to thank Pakistan today for publishing our comments and encouraging debate irrespective how unpalatble it may be. There is a syndrome called Jack in The Box. This relates to people who after having been suppressed for so long suddenly experience freedom , tend to go over the top. With this comment i would like to draw a line under this discussion. we are poles apart.

  3. With due respect I shall ask the politicians to carefully look in to the needs of Fountain House. This facility has struggled after the untimely death of Prof Haroon Rashid Chaudhry who died unexpectedly after cardiac by pass surgery at Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) on 5th October 2010.

Facilities for mentally ill are very limited in Pakistan and we must support what we have. Dr Amjad Saqib is doing a an excellent job for Fountain House Lahore Pakistan which needs ongoing support of affluent and privileged Pakistanis.

    • Now i know atleast what is Fountain House. In my time when i was studuing at kEMC in 1966 we used to take bus no ?44 to a Hospital near the Kinnaid College. We used to learn about the mental diseases there and often used to end up thinking ourselves as the patients. Is it the same facility wiht a changed name.? Excuse me for indulging in nostalgia .

  4. Typical of this crude uneducated woman.

It could equally be said that Fountain House has room for her and her PPP gang of crooks too.

    Pindoo!

  5. Firdous Awan is an ideal candidate for this facility. I still remember her encounter with Kashmala Tariq on a Talk show.It is unfortunate for people of Pakistan that such horrible person is minister

  6. What a tragedy of this nation. What a level of a minister. In fact fountain house is much better than parliament at least you don't hear such stupid statements from there.Time for Firdous to spend some time after all they are their voters

    • All this conversation is a result of a very inappropriate statement from an Very Honourable Minister. This is how one politician respects another politician.
