Radio Pakistan chief awarded Nishan-e-Imtiaz

Radio Pakistan Director General Murtaza Solangi was among the outstanding people who got Nishan-e-Imtiaz and other civil awards for their meritorious services in various fields on the occasion of Pakistan Day. President Asif Ali Zardari conferred the medal upon Solangi in recognition of his meritorious public service in broadcasting at a ceremony here on Friday.
Born in Sindh’s Noshero Feroze district on February 20, 1960, Murtaza Solangi did masters in journalism from Karachi University. He then joined daily The News as a reporter in 1991. He also worked with Pakistan Television, Radio Pakistan and on stage as an artist and a compere.
He worked as a research analyst and wrote many articles on South Asia with particular focus on Pakistan. He also produced a documentary film that was presented by the BBC. Murtaza Solangi went to the United States for higher education in 1993 and got a degree in broadcasting from Gateway Technical College Western Islands. He then joined the Voice of America Urdu Service and continued to work for 15 years.
He has been serving as Radio Pakistan director general for the past over three and a half years. During this period, he launched a number of projects to further strengthen the national organisation and enable it to face the modern day challenges in the field of broadcasting.
