Pakistan made a flying start in the 10th West-Asia Baseball Cup, crushing Iran in the opening match 11-0 at the Punjab Stadium here on Friday.
The Iran team, which was looking a strong one and restricted Pakistan from scoring any run until Arshad Khan hit home-run in the second innings, later failed to give significant resistance mainly due to the fine pitching by the Pakistani pitchers.
Pakistan earned second run through Muhammad Asif in the third innings. In all Asif contributed three runs. Pakistan were more offensive in the fourth and fifth innings as added five runs. While in the fourth innings, Asif and Iftikhar Ahmad contributed one run each, in fifth innings Arshad , Farooq Khan and Asif added one run each as Pakistan were leading with a comfortable lead of 7-0 by the end of the fifth innings.
While Iran have failed to response, the aggressive Pakistan team made one more run in the 6th innings through Arslan to take 8-0 lead. In the 7th innings, which proved the last of the match, Pakistan further added three runs through Sumair Zawar, Arif Senior and Arslan to win the match easily. In the second match, Pakistan will take on Afghanistan on Saturday at 2.pm.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka team has also reached Lahore and took a round of the Punjab Stadium.
President Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) Lt. Gen. Syed Arif Hasan inaugurated the event. Secretary POA Mr. Khalid Mahmood, president Pakistan Federation Baseball Mr. Shaukat Javed and secretary PFB Khawar Shah, Mohsin Khan Vice President Pakistan Federation Baseball, Haider Khan Lehri Associaate Secretary PFB, Wisal Khan Vice President Pakistan Federation Baseball, Muhammad Tahir & Ramazan Kasoori President and Secretary Islamabad Baseball Association, and other official of the Federation were also present on the occasion. Earlier, school girl student also displayed a show to entertain the guests.
