Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif has blamed the Pakistan Peoples Party’s government and its allies for all current problems, claiming that the country was developing at a rapid pace when he was the prime minister.
Addressing the laptop distribution ceremony at Punjab University on Friday, Nawaz said in Pakistan, dictatorship had been nurtured and promoted, which not only divided the country but also tried to bar the sapling of democracy from growing.
He said Musharraf had arrested judges, abrogated the constitution and put the country in its “darkest era”. He said four years ago, Zardari had forced the PML-N to make a coalition government in the center and in Punjab, but when his party observed that Zardari was not interested to change “his way of corruption”, they immediately stopped supporting Zardari and departed from the coalition government.
Nawaz said that during his imprisonment, he watched a BBC talk show on the achievements of India on its 50th Independence Day in which former Indian prime ministers were invited He said the former PMs had unanimously agreed that Indian’s prosperity and progress was due to no compromise on democracy.
Nawaz was of the view that martial laws brought numerous damages to the country and they sowed seeds of hate among the people. “Our neighbouring country is successful because of the continuity and consistency of democracy,” he said. Nawaz said his party believed in practical steps to address public grievances. “If more money is invested in education then it will help nurture a revolutionary youth,” he added. “We are not distributing weapons to the students — we have given them laptops,” he said, adding that his party would be distributing 300,000 more laptops in the next budget.

  1. And I blame sharif (budmash) brothers for all ills. If they had not supported this govt. from day one and given them time to have firm control in the country, things might have been different. I would never want a person as my prime minister who is still haunted by what happened to him 13 years ago.

  2. The ruling elite whoever was in the government is responsible for the sufferings of the people.I have seen people suffering abroad as well as at home internally.

  3. People are protesting on the streets of Lahore and this stupid leader is enjoying his visit to Sindh. After that he well departs for London and come back after taking some rest. What kind of incentive he is talking about that has been given to the people of Punjab. From law and order situation to poverty Punjab is facing all the major problems today because of Mian brothers who are acting as big bosses and minting money. Mian Sahib should look into his own mirror first. I am sure Punjab is not going to vote Mian Sahib this time how can Sindh? I also wonder that Sindh has received two dead bodies from Punjab, what kind of sympathy Mian Sahib is showing towards the people of Sindh. It is hilarious.

  4. Mr Sharif should remember that part of the responsibility for the government’s failure lies with its coalition partners as well as the opposition parties. When the coalition government led by the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) tried to implement the Reformed General Sales Tax (RGST) as per the pledge made to the IMF, it was assailed by all and sundry. Had the RGST been implemented, it would have ensured that the IMF package would not be hindered and it would have also benefited Pakistan’s dwindling economy. It is far too easy to complain about the economic mess but it is difficult to admit to one’s own follies. Mr Sharif also claimed that corruption has reached its pinnacle in the country while completely forgetting that his own party is accused of the exact same thing. Granted that corruption is a malaise affecting Pakistan but it is not just limited to one political party or just the political class — corruption is rampant all over the country and every institution, be it the military, the judiciary, the public sector, the private sector, is equally affected by it. An end to corruption can only be brought out by systematic reforms and cannot be done overnight. The PPP-led government is not responsible for making the country “a beggar” as per Mr Sharif’s claims. From day one Pakistan has had to rely on foreign aid. Even when Mr Sharif was the prime minister, twice, we had to rely on economic and military aid.
