Khan Research Laboratory (KRL) defeated Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) in the sudden death session to win the KPT National Football Challenge Cup-2012 3:1 here on Friday. In front of a sizeable crowd at the KPT Football Stadium, KRL’s Kaleem Ullah, Shahid Ahmed and Zia-ul-Islam while Muhammad Eesa Khan was the only kicker from KESC to score. After both the teams were locked 0-0 in stipulated time and even the extra 30-minute bore no result, teams were given sudden death time.
The final was really a treat to watch between the two top teams of the event. The match started in a very positive manner and both the team’s players started to attack each other’s goal post right from the start beginning. Syed Khadim Ali Shah, President Sindh Football Association was the chief guest along with Lt. Col ® Ahmed Yar Khan Lodhi TI (M), General Secretary PFF, Ghulam Ali Mammon, General Manager Planning & Development and Wing Comd. ® Pervaiz Saeed Mir, Director Development & Competition.
KRL took the winner’s trophy along with Rs 300,000 while KESC got Rs 200,000. WAPDA got third position trophy and Rs 100,000. Kamran Khan of KESC snatched the best player title with cash award of Rs 25,000, while Rs 20,000 was awarded to Muhammad Rasool of KESC for his nomination as highest goal scorer. Jahangir Khan of KESC was awarded as best goalkeeper with cash prize of Rs 20,000.
Best referee awarded was given to Shafaat Habib, FIFA Referee of Rawalpindi with cash prize of Rs 20,000 while Rs 10,000 were awarded to Aslam Sharif, National Referee of Karachi for his nomination for best assistant referee. PPWD was awarded Fair Play trophy and cash prize of Rs 30,000.
