The senior most judge of the Supreme Court (SC) Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan took oath as the acting Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) on Saturday.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry took oath from Justice Shakirullah at a ceremony held at Old Governor House, Murree.
It is worth mentioning here that Chief Election Commissioner Justice (Retd) Hamid Ali Mirza completed his tenure on March 23.
On Thursday, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, under Article 217 of the Constitution, nominated Justice Shakirullah Jan as the acting CEC after Justice (Retd) Hamid Ali Mirza completed his tenure on March 23.
The chief justice said that the nomination of acting CEC would be automatically removed after the appointment of new CEC.
Prompt thinking and efficient decision making will be the key to take Pakistan out of the doldrums. The judicial system of Pakistan has asserted itself to the benefit of the country and so have the defence services, mainly Pakistan Army. It is the turn of the politicians to show that they have what it takes to make this country truly great.This will happen if the politician in Pakistan first develop a respect for the law and then a courage to punish those in their ranks who break it.
