Residents of Raja Bazaar expressed concerns over rising business of illegal filling of gas cylinders in residential areas. The residents said that the traders are doing the business in every street and Mohalla of the bazaar. This business is continuing with the connivance of the district administration, they added. Several Fatal incidents occurred in these areas but no action has been taken towards closure of this business. “Due to the fear of any tragic incident we are forced to shift from the street where that business is being run, said Ghulam Abbas, a resident of Raja Bazaar.
Meanwhile, the traders engaged in the business are also operating in other areas of the city including Sadar Bazaar, railway road, Tench Bhatt, Chungi No 22 Bakra Mandi, Tahli Mohri, Dhok Sayedan, Misrial Road, Dhok Khabba, Satellite town and Pir Wadhai Social and political circles demanded of the city district government to take stern action against all those involved in the business.
Cantt Board increases property tax: The cantonment board has increased residential and commercial property tax by 10 and 15 percent respectively.
The board issued a notification in this regard, whereas increased tax would be charged from 2011 to 2014.
Earlier, the board had accepted the people’s demand and it agreed to increase five percent and 10 percent tax for residential and commercial property respectively.Meanwhile, the board directed the tax recovery department to recover 10 and 15 percent property tax from the citizens. The civil society, traders and political circles condemned the increase in property tax.
City Govt seeks completion of utility services work: The city district government has demanded of the federal government’s departments to complete utility services shifting work under Chandni Chowk Flyover within one month. Rawalpindi Commissioner Saqib Zafar asked the concerned department, including PTCL, WAPDA and SUI GAS to complete their work, including telephone lines, electric wires and Sui gas pipe line’s shifting within given time frame. Saqib Zafar also directed the high way department to complete the construction of road under the flyover, saying that traffic mess increased under the flyover due to the non-construction of the road.
