Government approves Shuhada Package for prison staff

Rawalpindi Region Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Prisons Malik Shoukat Feroz has said that Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has approved Shuhada Package for jail officers and staff of Punjab Police department.
He said under the package, besides a permanent disability grant, a temporary disability grant will also be given. The heirs or families of martyrs (Shuhada) could get Rs 3 million each. Rs 2 million would be given by the Punjab government while Rs 1 million would be given by the Punjab Prison Foundation.
This DIG Prisons was speaking at a meeting of jail officers and staff at Central Jail Adiala here. Senior Superintendent Jail Malik Mushtaq Awan also addressed the meeting, which was attended by Additional Superintendent Jail Ch.Shabraiz Hussain, Deputy Superintendent Jail Noor-ul-Hasan Beghaila, and Muhammad Arshed Waraich.
The DIG Prison said that the victims of terrorism, bomb blast, riots in the jail could get these grants. The officials who would be victim of permanent disability would get Rs 500,000 and victim of temporary disability would get Rs 300,000 grant.
He said the Punjab Government has also announced an education package for the children of martyrs, under which it will bear all expenses of their education up to Post-Graduate level. The widows and heirs will get full pay and allowances with all benefits up to the age of 60 years of the martyrs and his family will have right to get full pension throughout the life of widows, he added.
The DIG said that the jail staff and officers should abide by the jail rules during their duty hours. Illegal activities including mobile phone and drugs provision in the jail would not be tolerated at any cost and the officials indulged in such sort of activities would be taken to the task according to the E & D rules.
He announced the promotion of 42-wardens to jail head wardens and seven head wardens to chief jail wardens in connection with the celebrations of Pakistan Day and Shohda Package announced by Chief Minister Punjab.
Senior Superintendent Jail Malik Mushtaq Awan said that strict monitoring of the officials would be carried out during their duty hours and no one would be spared found involve in violation of departmental rules by giving show-cause notices, registration of FIR against that officials and they would be suspended immediately, he added.
World meteorological day observed: The World Meteorological Day was marked across the globe, including Pakistan on Friday for raising awareness among people about global warming and other environmental issues that affect weather and climate directly and indirectly.
The theme of the World Meteorological Day 2012 was ‘Powering our Future with Weather, Climate and Water.’
Various events such as conferences, symposia and exhibitions for meteorological professionals, community leaders and the general public were arranged at national and international level to attract media attention to raise meteorology’s profile.
Talking to APP, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) Director General Arif Mehmood said a number of activities were arranged by Institute of Meteorology and Geo-Physics, Karachi. The instruments of meteorology were displayed in the exhibition held in Karachi.
He said the centre had also organised seminars and lectures for students of colleges and universities to raise awareness among them about the climate changes.
Highlighting the objective of marking the day, Arif said weather affected the common man in many ways and now people planned important events in consultation with the Met Office.
27 outlaws arrested: Police on Friday claimed to have arrested 27 outlaws and two drunkards from various areas of the city and seized 615 grams of charas, 128 bottles of liquor, seven pistols of 30 bore with 21 rounds, one dagger and six stolen goats worth Rs 65,000 from them.
According to a police spokesman, 27 lawbreakers were held in various raids by Rawalpindi police while drugs, liquor and illegal weapons were also recovered from their possession.
Meanwhile, two drunkards were also arrested with recovery of bottles of liquor.
