Her Royal Highness, Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand, was warmly welcomed by the Punjab Governor Sardar Latif Khan Khosa at the Governor House here on Thursday. The pictures from the Governor House photo library, relived the youthful days of Princess Maha’s parents, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Her Majesty Queen Regent Sirikit, who had visited the Punjab Governor House in March 1962 and the Princess’ visit coincided exactly 50 years later in March 2012. At a solemn ceremony, the governor presented a photograph book, a souvenir and a hand-woven carpet to the Princess. Princess Maha also offered some mementos to the governor including an elephant carved in bronze (an elephant is the national animal of Thailand), and her publications. Later, Her Highness planted a Moulsri sapling at the lawns of the Governor House beside the mango tree which was planted by her parents fifty years ago. Earlier, Punjab Governor had a one-on-one meeting with Princess Maha and welcomed her on behalf of the people of Pakistan, expressed the hope that the relations between the two countries will advance with every passing day. Khosa said that Pakistan looked forward to more visits from the Thai royalty to Pakistan. Princess Maha appreciated Pakistan’s role in the war against terror and said her visit will reinforce traditionally cordial ties between Pakistan and Thailand.
