Martyred Sardar Bhagat Singh is recorded to have said that life is only worth being spent with vigour and valour while people should only be depended on when the time comes to be carried to the graveyard on their shoulders.
Singh was one of the greatest critics of Mahatma Ghandi’s philosophy of non-violence and said the policy had prolonged the British rule. He was hanged by the British on March 23, 1931, a day that will be celebrated as his death anniversary this year. A vigil will be held at the Shadman Chowk in the evening, the place where the freedom fighters were hagne.d
Sardar Bhagat Singh was born on September 27, 1907 in a Sikh family, who were farmers by occupation, in Banga Village in Layalpur (currently Faisalabad) District. His family stood for patriotism, reforms, and freedom of the country. His father Kishen Singh and his uncle Ajit Singh were members of Ghadr Party founded in the early years of British rule in India. Both were jailed for anti-government activities.
Talking to Pakistan Today Zahid Akkasi, a veteran writer and journalist said Bhagat Singh studied at the National College and was a great revolutionary leader and reformist. He said Bhagat fled away from his house, went to Kanpur and joined Noujawan Bharat Sabha’ that had members from all sects and religions.
He said Singh secretly fled to Delhi where he worked in a newspaper “Veerajan” with pen name of Balwant and he was a member of
Indian Republican Association that was struggling for the elimination of exploitation of a man by a man.
Bhagat Singh reached Delhi travelling via Lahknow, Calcutta and Bengal in an imposter. Bhagat Singh and his companion Dutt distributed handbills at Delhi Central Assembly on April 8, 1929. They also threw a bomb in the Assembly corridor by chanting slogan of Inqilab Zindabad (Long Live, Revolution!). Zahid Akkasi said the police arrested them and first they were detained in Secretariat Police Station in April 1929. He said a criminal case was started against them on May 7, 1927 and later he was sentenced to death.
Inqilab is a term hated by the so called freedom fighters including the father of the nation. In reality all those who opposed Non Voilence to attain freedom are today forgotten or lost in obscurity. The cost of not taking a revolutionary path and shedding blood for our freedom has resulted in our cuurent Chaos. The man who the world thinks as great Mahathma by preaching Non Voilence has left behind a weak and a corrupt nation with a billion people totaly self centered.
May the Great Bagat singh"s Soul rest in peace.
