Extravagant PU goes overboard

Having spent Rs 30 million on the laptop distribution ceremony, the Punjab University (PU) is all set to welcome the chief minister on March 23. Various TV channels reported on Wednesday that the PU vice-chancellor had approved the huge amount from the university funds. The document signed by the VC said tents would cost Rs 15m, T-shirts and caps Rs 6.5m, banners and placards of worth Rs 5m, sound system and the sound master Rs 2m and 0.8m.A university spokesperson, however, said that they were expecting the Punjab government to pay all the expenses of the ceremony.
Earlier, Higher Education Provincial Minister Zaeem Qadri on Wednesday presided over a meeting to review arrangements of the ceremony.
