A large number of traders from the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Tuesday staged a protest demonstration against the unjust taxes imposed on them by the government.
The protesting business community gathered in front of the Parliament House from where they moved towards Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and staged a sit-in while some clashes between police and protestors were also reported as traders entered into the red zone area by removing barricades. Law enforcers tried hard to calm down the protestors as the joint session of National Assembly and Senate was also in process.
The protestors said that traders could not afford burden of new taxes, and rejected all the new taxes imposed by government in different forms. They criticized that government had completely failed to provide relief to masses, saying that business and trade activities were getting affected due to escalating terrorism situation, adding that unprecedented hike in petroleum prices, electricity and gas tariff had already multiplied the miseries of traders and general masses.
The protesting traders requested the Supreme Court to take suo moto action against unfair taxes.
They further demanded that the government and the higher authorities should immediately take back the decision of imposing more taxes on traders.
