Already suffering through long hours of outages, Lahore Electric Supply Company has decided to electrocute consumers by adding the Fuel Price Adjustment (FPA) charges for the month of August in the bills for the month of February.
This addition would raise the bills by over 300 percent since the tax being levied is Rs 3.0329 per unit. Apart from the protests against outages, protests were also held against these inflated bills in some areas of the city. Last time the consumers were charged FPA for the month of June and July, 2011, in the month of November, 2011, and the consumers received huge bills. Later the matter was taken up in the court and the FPA was stopped for the time being. However, once again the LESCO has decided to add the FPA. The FPA for the month of June and July was Rs 1.036 per unit and Rs 2.0429 per unit respectively but now the price has been fixed at Rs 3.0329 per unit. Consumers have said it would be impossible for them to pay the bills. “I consumed less than 100 units but my bill was more than Rs 2,400 or in other words, I have been charged Rs 24 for one unit of electricity,” lamented a domestic consumer Sultan Ahmed adding LESCO was making the consumers go through a lot of trouble. A LESCO official, discussing the FPA, said it was only for the month of August.
