Jewish and Muslim community leaders are to organise a silent march in Paris on Sunday in memory of victims from both communities shot by a suspected serial killer in southwestern France. Richard Prasquier, the head of France’s main Jewish organisation, the Crif, made the announcement after Jewish and Muslim community leaders met President Nicolas Sarkozy at the Elysee Palace in Paris. “In the name of the national community, we will hold a silent march in memory of these abominable acts, from Montparnasse to the Invalides,” Prasquier said, referring to two places in central Paris. “This march only makes sense if it is together,” he said. A gunman on Monday attacked a Jewish school in Toulouse, killing three children and a teacher, days after a shooter killed three paratroopers of North African origin in the same region. Two of the soldiers were Muslim. The head of Paris’s Great Mosque, Dalil Boubakeur, said Parisian mosques would on Friday “bring the faithful together in prayer for all the victims, without distinction, to pray and reflect on the misfortune that affects us.”
