Besides poverty alleviation, the prime objective of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) is the socio-economic empowerment of the women.
This was stated by BISP Chairwoman Farzana Raja while talking to a National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) delegation, led by NCSW Chairman Anees Haroon at the BISP Secretariat on Wednesday.
Raja presented details about the various measures the BISP had taken to bring positive change in the lives of millions of beneficiary families across Pakistan.
She added that the cash grants and other facilities are being provided to the beneficiaries through the female heads of the families, contributing to empowering Pakistani women. The delegation appreciated the performance of the BISP including reaching out to more than six million families and uplifting the socio-economic conditions of the women in the country. It was decided on the occasion that the BISP and NCSW would explore the possibilities of working together for women empowerment.
