Lawmakers attending the Balochistan Assembly session on Tuesday paid tribute to President Asif Ali Zardari and the government for taking historical measures during the last four years.
The assembly session started an hour behind its schedule.
Speaking on a point of order, provincial Revenue Minister and Awami National Party (ANP) parliamentary leader, Zamarak Khan Piralizai said: “President Zardari ensured the passage of the 18th, 19th and 20th Amendments, the 7th Consensus National Finance Commission Award and the implementation of the Aghaz-e-Haqooq-e-Balochistan Package.” He appreciated the government’s efforts to resolve the problems of Balochistan. He said the Pashtoon community was thankful to President Zardari as he had played a significant role in changing the name of the North Western Frontier Province to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He stated that the Pakistan People’s Party-led government had ensured provincial autonomy. He added that more steps needed to be taken to remove the sense of deprivation from among the Baloch people. Balochistan Minister for Women Development and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Ghazala Gola felicitated President Zardari for addressing the joint session of the Parliament for the fifth time. “President Zardari and the PPP-led government have taken several historical steps to put the country on the track of development,” she said. She stated that the Election Commission of Pakistan should be charged with fixing the mistakes in the new computerised voters’ lists.
