Protesters broke the windows and damaged premises of the NADRA Office at Sheikhupura More on Monday to protest against the undue delay in issuance of CNICs.
Reportedly, NADRA officials went on a token strike to express solidarity with their fellow NADRA officials who went to Islamabad to protest against delay in issuance of their permanent employment status. People, who had applied for CNICs, got enraged on coming to know that the staff had gone to Islamabad. The applicants started a protest, as they were waiting for their CNICs for many months. The Subzi Mundi Police dispersed the angry mob and arrested two demonstrators, who were released afterwards.
Azeem Butt, an applicant, talking to Pakistan Today said that he was visiting NADRA office for rectification of his CNIC for three months but staff was continuously delaying the process. He added that he had paid the fees twice for rectification of his CNIC, as initially the file got rejected but when he contacted NADRA Head Office in Islamabad they said that they have not received the file. Azeem said that he should have received his card within 10 days.
