Bangladesh needs a victory over Sri Lanka in their final match of the 11th Asia Cup to qualify for the final at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka on Tuesday (March 20).
If Sri Lanka wins, India will go into the final but a Sri Lankan defeat will ensure that Bangladesh take on Pakistan in the final on Thursday (March 22).
India, whose Asia Cup campaign was thrown into disarray after their upset five-wicket defeat against minnows Bangladesh, will now have to await the result of the last league match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
As per the rules, if two teams are tied on points, head to head record will be considered, so Bangladesh will go into the final as they had beaten India in their league match.
The day and night encounter will be 30th one-day international match between the two teams and 11th in Asia Cup.
Sri Lanka have a very good record against Bangladesh in previous ODIs matches. They have won 27 and lost just two in 29 matches played against the Bangladesh.
The Islanders have won all 10 matches against Bangladesh in Asia Cup. They have also won seven out of nine matches played against Bangladesh in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh’s both victories against Sri Lanka in one-day internationals came at home. They beat Islanders by four wickets at Shaheed Chandu Stadium, Bogra on February 22, 2006 and achieved a five-wicket win at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur on January 14, 2009.
Sri Lanka recorded a 126 win over Bangladesh when two teams met last time in the league match of the 10th Asia Cup at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on June 18, 2010.
