Citizens have expressed grave concern over the growing number of incidents of pick pocketing, purse snatching and other street crimes in Melody market.
“The market’s security arrangements are insufficient and customers are robbed in broad daylight at gun point,” said Ghulam Asghar a customer.
“The market plunges into darkness in the early evening as there are no street lights installed. The robbers snatch purses and hurl abusive remarks at us,” said a young girl. A group of female shoppers said they worked during the day and could only shop in the evening. They added that coming to the market was becoming increasingly dangerous.
The residents of the area have demanded the government to beef up the security for the market.
