Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Saturday expressed confidence in the National Command Authority (NCA), saying the world had recognised that Pakistan evolved excellent safety and security arrangements for its nuclear assets.
“The National Command Authority has the full backing of the parliament because it was created by an act of parliament,” an official statement quoted the prime minister as saying during a presentation by senior officials of the Strategic Plan Division (SPD) and Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Masood Khan, who is also the country’s chief negotiator on nuclear security.
Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Khalid Shamim Wyne, Lt General (r) Khalid Kidwai, the foreign secretary and several other senior officials attended the presentation on the upcoming Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul from March 26 to 28, 2012.
The prime minister said the Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul represented continuity because he had earlier attended the summit in Washington in April 2010, adding that it amounted to Pakistan’s abiding commitment to its nuclear assets as well as safety and security of civilian nuclear facilities.
