Month long Sports Festival closes amidst colourful ceremony

The month long Punjab Sports Festival 2012 on Saturday night came to an end amidst colourful closing ceremony here at Hajveri Bagh, under the shadow of Badshahi Masjid and Lahore Fort. All the winners of diffeent events from all the tahsils, districts, divisions, schools and colleges assembled at the arena especially decorated to lure the youth of the province towards sports. Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif, being the chief guest welcomed the players and presented the top performers with prizes while Hamza Shahbaz Sharif, who was the chairman organizing committee, Rana Mashood, deputy speaker, Usman Anwar, Dg Sports Punjab, MPAs, MNAs, secretaries and government officials joined the organizing committee during the mega historical event. Earlier in the day the last event of the festival, the 66 km professional and 22 fun cyle race were held at the ring road. Awais Ali of Faisalabad clinched the 66 km Professional Cycling Race completing the distance in 1 hour, 38 minutes. Shafique of Kasur got the second position while Zahid Iqbal of Lahore attained third position. Talha Baber was fourth in this race. The Professional race started at 11 am from Old Ravi Interchange and terminated at the same venue. Secretary Sports Allah Bakhsh and DG Sports Usman Anwar along with other officials were present on this occasion. The race participants finished the race on the same point.
