Meeting for 1690th time and still trying to deal with corruption

Punjab University Syndicate’s 1690th meeting, held on Saturday, was attended by many.
The meeting had summoned former PU Dean Prof Dr Qari Mughees uddin Sheik and ICS Director Prof Dr Ahsan Akhtar Naz and served show-cause notices to them. Qari Mughees and Dr Naz presented some documents in their defense on which the syndicate members decided that they will be summoned in the next meeting for personal hearing. It is important to mention here that this case of alleged corruptions was highlighted by a PU female teacher Dr Affira Hamid by writing a letter to PU VC in 2010.
BOOK FAIR CONCLUDED: Pakistan’s largest book fair organised by Punjab University administration concluded on Saturday evening with the largest-ever sale of over 80,000 books, giving a landmark and historical success to the event. Provincial Education Minister Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman attended the concluding ceremony and purchased various books from stalls during his visit. Talking to reporters, the education minister lauded the efforts PU VC Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran and his team for successfully organising the fair which provided books on extra-ordinary discounted rates to knowledge seekers. He said that the fair was the testimony of Prof Kamran’s love for books as he had also promoted research culture in the university. Khawaja Imran Nazir, Raghib Naeemi, Amjad Islam Amjad, renowned journalists, columnists, poets, bureaucrats, doctors, lawyers, businessmen and people from other walks of life visited book fair and purchased books of their choice.
