The contaminated water supplied to the Commercial Market Satellite Town, is posing health hazards. “Our market is one of the busiest shopping centres of the city, but we are deprived of clean drinking water,” said Faheem Kahn, a shopkeeper. “Many people have fallen ill with diseases like hepatitis, after drinking the water,” said a teacher. The residents of the area said their repeated requests to the authorities to ensure the supply of clean drinking water to the area had been ignored.
They demanded that the authorities concerned take immediate notice of the issue.
The supply of contaminated water in Satellite Town Rawalpindi is going on for the last two years.Two in my family have come down with Jaundice.The WASA staff has been seen dumping sewage in open storm drains meant only for rain water.I have
seen them doing it three times in last five weeks or so.This was just across from
Arshi Masjid in A Block of Satellite Town.This Block in the past has housed a number
of Foreign Embassies.The place where Sewage is dumped from Vehicles by the WASA Staff is where the US Embassy was once located.This is supposed to be the most posh sectors of Satellite Town.One doesn't have to test the water,the colour and smell alone can drive one crazy.
