Students follow illustrious footsteps at 75th KC convocation

The 75th Convocation of Kinnaird College for Women was held on Friday, at Perin Boga Amphitheatre at Kinnaird College for Women, Lahore. Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The ceremony was presided over by the Chairman of The Board of Governors Kinnaird College for Women, the honorable Bishop of Lahore, Dr Alexander John Malik. Dr Alexander John Malik declared the convocation open and congratulated the outgoing students. He said that he was sure that the values injected in the students by Kinnaird College would help them not only in their professional and practical lives but also at their personal ends.
Principal Kinnaird College for Women Dr. Rukhsana David also congratulated the outgoing graduates and said that the college is very proud of them as most of them have joined the workforce or are studying abroad for further PhDs. She said that Kinnaird College has bagged 10 top positions in the Intermediate Examinations 2011 of which four are over all top positions. Kinnaird College is successfully running 10 M.Phil and 3 Masters Programs. All these programs are of high standard and are very popular. In the next academic session college plans to introduce PhD program in English Literature and Environmental sciences, and M.Phil in Food Sciences and Human Nutrition and a Bachelors program in law.
Kinnaird College is also ensuring faculty development by arranging workshops and training sessions in teaching methodologies, micro teaching, QEC workshops etc. A number of faculty members also presented their papers at International Conferences. Ms Manal Talat (Accounting and Finance) read a paper in Miami, USA in August 2011. Ms. Amna Ashraf (Media Studies) in Istanbul, Turkey in July 2011 and Shazia Saeed (Media Studies) will be presenting her paper in International Conference on Communication, Media technology and design in Istanbul in May 2012. Over all twenty nine papers both by faculty and students were published or have been accepted for publication in the last academic session 2011-12. The Chief Guest awarded degrees to 221 students of post graduation and 280 students of graduation. Out of these 36 are on the Principal’s Honour and Merit lists with a CGPA of 3.80 and above.
Mira Phailbus Gold medal was awarded to Tehreem Arslan Aurakzai of English literature. Isakhel Gold medal was awarded to Hafiza Maria Aftab of environmental Sciences. Boswell Gold Medal was awarded to Zara Raza of Zoology. Lily Najmuddin dramatics Gold medal was awarded to Jahan Leena Masood of Media studies, Asma Jamil Debates Gold Medal to Osheen Fatima Fsc II, Anwar ul Haq pure sciences Gold Medal to Ayesha Munir of Chemistry, Angoori Humanities Gold Medal to Neha Zariq of English Literature, S.M.Zafar social sciences Gold Medal to Summeya Sauleh of Political Science and professor Qazi Mohammad Fareed professional Studies Gold medal to Mirha Masood of Business Studies.
