In national interest?

According to Younis Habib out of the Rs340 million only Rs140 million were disbursed to civilians while the rest of the money was pocketed by individuals and ‘welfare’ trusts, with no benefit accruing to the common man, who, it seems, is destined to be lied to by the elected and unelected leaders of this unfortunate country.

The nation was told that the 1958 martial law and the formation of one unit were in national interest. Similarly, military action in the former East Pakistan and Balochistan were in national interest too as were martial laws imposed by Zia and Musharraf and all that they did. Hundreds of Pakistani nationals have gone missing; dead bodies of many of them were found later. And we are supposed to keep quiet about all these brutalities in the name of national interest.

I am at a loss to understand why our constitutionally elected or self-imposed heads of state, bureaucrats and generals violate constitution and the oath of office at will and then claim that all of this was done in the national interest.
