Former UK minister visits historic book fair at PU

Former United Kingdom Minister Shahid Munir on Friday visited Pakistan’s largest book fair being organised by Punjab University administration at IER, New Campus. Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran and faculty members welcomed the delegate and visited the book fair. The UK minister lauded PU VC and administration for organizing knowledge-friendly activity. Mr Munir said that such activities could help promote education in the society and provision of books on extra-ordinary discounted rates spoke the volume of interest of PU administration for enhancing habit of book reading in the society. The UK minister also purchased some books from different stalls.
Renowned journalists, columnists, poets, bureaucrats, doctors, lawyers, businessmen and people from other walks of life visited book fair and purchased books of their choice. Books upto 50 percent discount rates really urged people to continue their “looting spree”. According to Deputy Chief Librarian Muhammad Haroon Usmani, over 10000 books were sold on the first day of the book fair. The students showed their keen interest in co-curricular and extra-curricular books. People were of the view that the book fair was very important to promote study culture in the society.
