A court on Friday awarded life-imprisonment to Police Station House Officer (SHO) Manzarul Haq Shah Jahan for uttering blasphemous remarks against the Holy Prophet (PBUH).
Additional District and Sessions’ Judge Chaudhry Umar Hayat handout out the verdict on a case registered at the complaint of Muhammad Younis. The complainant had alleged that the then SHO of Raja Jung Police Station had uttered blasphemy in a conversation with him and two other men, Javed Iqbal and Hafiz Shahid, on street crime. Younis had alleged that the SHO called Hafiz a “Maulvi” and used blasphemous words against the Holy Prophet (PBUH). The complainant had added that he was getting the case (No 20/2009) registered at the police station under Section 295-C after discussing the incident with 65 members of a mosque.
A fatwa was also issued by religious scholars of prominent seminaries like Darul Aloom and Jamia Naeemia, Lahore, against the SHO. In his judgement, the judge observed that the offence of blasphemy had been fully proven against the accused, and that he had been found guilty. The judge awarded life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 200,000 in the case, adding that the accused would have to undergo further two years of imprisonment if he failed to pay the fine.

  1. Only life imprisonment? What's happening to the Land of the Pure – have you started getting soft? This kind of half-hearted punishment for blasphemy (which, as we all know, is the worst crime in the world) will be getting Pakistan a bad name amongst the faithful.

  2. You do realise that the rest of the world holds Pakistan, its people and its culture in contempt for this very reason.

That a person is not allowed freedom of conscience, to say little about freedom of religion is the mark of a fearful system.

Fearful that it will crumble once the reality of it's disgusting creed is understood.

You should all be ashamed of yourselves.

  3. Liberty is the right to say that which others may not want to here.(George Orwell).
When will primitive societies embrace this principle?

    • Descent? Hadn't it already landed? I thought the last 60 years were pakistan's rolling around laterally in the hallowed depths of madness

  4. what is this?? in europe we had the inquisition.. they tortured you if you had different ideas. but it was 600 years ago

life-term for blasphemy is the real blasphemy.. CRAZY!!!!

  5. All of those who have made false and disgusting remarks in this blog may carry and do so… For u is ready the fire of hell

  6. All of those who have made false and disgusting remarks in this blog may carry and do so… For u is ready the fire of hell. Inshallah! It’s fair enough to criticise against the law if u think it is injustice to give life imprisonment, as I being a true believer of Allah and his beloved messenger Mohammed p.b.u.h do think that if the offender haa pleaded guilty and repents his mistake he should be given a shorter punishment as Allah almighty is merciful and forgives those who repent truly!! However, if he is still standing by his blasphemous words then he will have a hell on land and te hereafter! Yes there is freedom to have your own Beleief however NO BODY has the right to speak ill or against any religion or another persons Beleief. Whether it is Mohammad pbuh or Jesus or any other religion believers. So stop with the accusations as you have nothing to back up.. Your just saying wrong things about Mohammad pbuh (nau zu billah) becoz you’re all illiterate or heartless people. I am saying this from a humanity point of view before a Muslims point of view! p.s Pakistan Times… You really ought to filter and check comments before allowing blogs with comments as such as it is sickening to read such coments on a serious topic as such!!! Seriously.. This is not you tube make your comments it’s a news blog for Pakistans news and should not be diverted to disrespect to Islam and it’s believers!!! Wake up Pakistan !!

  7. Imagine living in a country where saying the wrong thing about one particular religion can get you imprisoned for LIFE. Is it any wonder why most of the world views this as primitive?

  8. Foreigners come to our news sites to post hateful comments, they come to our country to strike us with drones, they come here in secret and kill our civilians, they plot to dismember our country….let them continue to revel in their hate and will shall continue to do what we do…..we are Pakistanis are we are resilient and we shall InshaAllah overcome these adverse times and makes these enemies of ours eat dust and humiliation….enjoy your pathetic comments now ganesh and john…thats all you've got

  9. "Yes there is freedom to have your own Beleief however NO BODY has the right to speak ill or against any religion or another persons Beleief."

Wrong. Freedom of speech is the most basic fundament on which modern civilization is built. If you cannot criticize those in power – be they politicians or religious authorities – how can they be held accountable to the people they lead? What prevents all sorts of abuses? If an idea – even a religion – cannot be openly criticized, how do we know of its merit? This complete hysterical rejection of all criticism agains Islam is obviously an admission of failure: fear and violence become necessary to defend an ideology only when there are no good arguments and facts to sustain it. You should be ashamed of your intolerance and thug mentality.

  10. " Your just saying wrong things about Mohammad pbuh (nau zu billah) becoz you're all illiterate"
    My irony meter just exploded.

  11. A childish culture, unable to cope with reality, and so must violently repress dissent.

The world sees Pakistan do things like this, and feels pity for the poor, ignorant souls that allow such abominations to happen. If you crave respect on the world stage, you must give it to your own people, and throwing a temper tantrum at the mere thought that your religion might be scoffed at by anyone is not the mark of respect. It is the mark of a spoiled child who wants the world to be as he imagines it.

Your culture is sick. You are as but children. Grow up and perhaps the adults will let you speak among them. Heal your diseased morals and perhaps others may care what you say about right and wrong. As it stands now, you know nothing of ethics.

Contempt is the only rational response to incidents such as these. Though, violent opposition would be morally justified as well.

By the way, how's this whole Islamist think working out for Pakistan in general? Are you prospering and achieving the international respect you believe you deserve…or are you wallowing in poverty and being mocked as the children you show yourselves to be?

The world awaits your growth to adulthood.

  12. Via the Quran God challenges mankind to write such a book or just a verse. So would you not think that rather then sentance a person; why not write about what they have said and state and highlight why we believe that it is wrong. Too much injustice and indirect worship of mammon prevails!

  13. Via the Quran God challenges mankind to write such a book or just a verse, would you not think that rather then sentance a person; why not write about what they have said and state why we believe that it is wrong. Too much injustice and indirect worship of mammon prevails!………Having read the article, I question if it truly took place. I understand people in Pakistan can take a disliking to someone and very happily make accusations …..they can be brilliant at lying!

  14. i ask to pakistani people, what did you give to world? Do you have a single scientific discovery or have you wrote any clasic book? You forget your own ancient civilisation. You destroyed your colorful culture. You all being slave of arabin culture. What a shame! You all know only fighting and destroying. You spoiled humanism and ethic.
