Officials from central Asian countries’ embassies and their families celebrated Jashan-e-Nouroz on Thursday at the National University of Modern Languages (NUML). Dressed in their traditional dresses, a large number of diplomats from Iran,
Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and
Afghanistan celebrated the festival.
The Nouroz celebrations were inaugurated by Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan Zubaydullo N Zubaydov.
Iranian Embassy Charge De Affairs Rawish, Iranian Cultral Counsellor Dr Sadiqi and Deputy Afghan Ambassador were also present on the occasion.
A cultural troupe, whose artists belonged to Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan, mesmerized the audience with their soulful renditions of Iranian cultural songs.
Speaking at the occasion, Tajikistani Ambassador Zubaydov said: “It was pleasant to see that a joint effort was made to celebrate the Nouroz and to share the cultural and traditional understanding with Pakistan. Such cultural exchanges not only help people from different countries get closer to each other but also help them to understand the global cultural environment”
NUML Rector Maj Gen (R) Masood Hasan said: “NUML is a place where 26 international languages are taught and the university always appreciates events that help our students to understand the culture and traditions of a particular language they are learning here.”
Russian Department head said the programme was dedicated to the New Day or the first day of spring. “Each country has its own customs but the one theme common in all of these is the joy expressed through dance and songs and of course through food,” he added.
