Canadian High Commissioner to Pakistan Ross Hynes has invited applications for the inaugural of Canadian awards for Pakistani journalists in the public interest for print, radio and television (electronic) media.
Eminent Pakistani journalists, with the support of the Canadian High Commission, have designed and will judge the award. High standards of journalism on issues of public interest play a vital role in upholding democracy, says a press release here Thursday. Applications shall be reviewed on the basis of professionalism and impact with regard to how the reporting serves the public interest by advancing public policy discussion and strengthening government accountability to the public.
Nominations and applications shall contain highlights of reporting from 2011 (in either Urdu or English) as follows.
Print media: print copy of report(s) total up to 2000 words shall be accompanied by an electronic or scanned CD version of the same, if possible.
Television & Radio: highlighted clips totally up to 10 minutes shall be in CD format along with a printed transcript, if possible. Separate awards shall be given for print, television and radio. Applicants shall note if they are under 30 years of age, for which there will be a distinct category of awards. Completed nominations or applications, along with full contact details, may be received by April 13.
