AIOU teachers urged to help govt eradicate illiteracy

Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Nazir Ahmed Sangi has advised the university’s teachers to utilise their energy and talent to fight illiteracy by following the teachings of the Holy Quran and Sunnah.
The VC said this while addressing a seminar arranged by the Department of Hadith and Shariah, Faculty of Arabic and Islamic Studies. Justice Shehzada Sheikh of Federal Shariat Court was the chief guest. Character-building in line with the teachings of the Holy Quran and Sunnah is of paramount important to prepare the youth to meet future challenges, the VC said, adding he was engaged in further strengthening the Islamic studies department to achieve the desired results.
Underlying the importance of truth and honesty, he said such fundamentals elements of Islamic teachings must be promoted to make the country strong and prosperous. He advised the university’s faculty members to work more devotedly, helping the government to achieve the set of the targets of eradicating illiteracy, poverty and unemployment from the country. Justice Shehzada Sheikh spoke about the Islamic values and norms that need to be strictly followed by the teachers and the students during their educational pursuits. The teachings of the Holy prophet (PBUH) are the best source to promote a health society, he added.
The teachers should be model for their students, he said, adding the Holy Prophet is known as ‘Al-Sadiq’ and ‘Al-Amin’ and every rich or poor in Macca called him by these names. This paved the way for spreading the message of Islam world over in an effective manner.
Punjab University Dean Faculty of Arabic and Islamic Studies Prof Muhammad Saad Siddiqui and Prof DrAli Asghar Cheshti, Dr Khalil-ur-Rehman and Dr Moeen-ud-Din Hashmi of the AIOU also addressed the seminar.
