Water shortage has reached 50 percent in Punjab due to low inflow in rivers. Due to a delay in the snow melting process, inflow of the water has been comparatively reduced from last year’s recorded level. A report published by Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) showed that water inflow in River Sindh near Tarbela stands at 17,300 cusecs, however, outflow remains 16,600 cusecs. In River Kabul near Nowshera, recorded water inflow and outflow stands at 15,800 cusecs. Inflow of water at River Jhelum near Mangla remains 15,800 cusecs and outflow is 16,600 cusecs. The country’s second largest water reservoir, Mangla Dam, has also touched its dead level just a couple of days after Tarbela reached its lowest ebb while inflows continue to run down. In Punjab, wheat crops are likely to be affected due to water shortage as water supply until March 20 remains uncertain.
