‘Current judiciary not transparent’

Senior lawyer Asma Jahangir on Wednesday refused to accept that the incumbent judiciary was free and transparent, saying the judicial commission should establish a free and neutral judicial system in the country instead of crafting a judge’s party. She was addressing the Lahore High Court Bar Association. “Common citizens are not happy because justice is not being granted to them,” she said. She warned the judicial commission to hire judges on merit, adding that lawyers should protect the rights of people at any cost.
